In today’s interconnected world, effective communication is essential. Yet, many young people around the globe lack the opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills. EduStorm, a non-profit organisation based in Argentina, is dedicated to empowering young people by developing their 21st-century skills.
One of the biggest challenges EduStorm faced was ensuring that their programs provided individuals with opportunities to effectively develop their essential skills. The organisation sought a clear framework to guide their efforts and measure their impact. They found the solution in the Skills Builder Universal Framework.
The Skills Builder Universal Framework makes it possible for everyone to teach, learn, and measure essential skills at any stage of their lives and careers. The Framework breaks each of the eight essential skills down into a sequence of 16 measurable, teachable steps, taking individuals from being an absolute beginner through to mastery. It takes essential skills and puts rigour behind them.
EduStorm joined the Global Impact Fellowship to receive support on how to embed the Universal Framework into their Mi Voz Programme. Mi Voz aims to empower youth from vulnerable backgrounds in Argentina by improving their speaking skills. Mi Voz holds 3 monthly workshops and weekly mentoring sessions between teenagers and inspiring professionals. By the end of the program, the mentees present a talk to the public in which they reflect on their learning during the program.
By embedding the Universal Framework across their provision, EduStorm were able to:
- Align essential skills to their program: The Universal Framework provided a structured approach to integrate essential skills into the Mi Voz program.
- Measure impact: Clear steps of progression enabled EduStorm to track the progress of participants' essential skills throughout their programme.
- Enhance coaching: The framework provided targeted guidance to help participants develop their essential skills.
The Global Impact Fellowship played a crucial role in EduStorm's journey. It provided the organisation with the necessary tools, support, and network to implement the Skills Builder Universal Framework effectively. Through the fellowship, EduStorm learned from experts, connected with other organisations, and gained valuable insights.
As Gabriel, project assistant at Edustorm, shared, "The Global Impact Fellowship has allowed us to see the program's impact on our beneficiaries. It provided the tools and mindset to move from recording each person's perspective to being able to support it with measurable data."
Moving forward, EduStorm plans to apply what they have learnt on the Global Impact Fellowship to embed the Skills Builder Universal Framework in its other programs, such as those focused on digital literacy and critical thinking.
If you're an NGO looking to empower your beneficiaries with essential skills, consider joining the Global Impact Fellowship. This transformative program can help you elevate your organisation's impact and create lasting change.
