Skills Builder Partnership has been proud to work with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and the British Council over the past two years. Together, we have been developing new models of teaching and assessing essential skills through the Kenyan education system.
In the words of KNEC:
Assessment of learners’ core competencies in basic education in Kenya is critical. In line with the global standards, Kenya’s Education sector is at its peak in reforming the education system. It is therefore paramount that for producing a skilled workforce to realise Kenya’s Vision 2030 the teachers nurturing the learners potential should be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to transform the country…
Kenya’s Basic Education Curriculum framework (BECF) and Kenya’s Competency Based Assessment framework (CBAF) has been developed to guide curriculum and Assessment implementation. In order to effectively assess… core competencies it is essential to break down the core skills for effective learning, instruction and assessment. We appreciate the valuable contribution by Skills Builder Partnership from the United Kingdom in providing expertise and varied contexts for adoption to produce a guide on core competencies development and assessment.
Over the last two years, in close partnership with KNEC and British Council we have used the Skills Builder approach to create a handbook and training approach so that teachers across Kenya can effectively teach and measure the essential skills of their learners. The team at KNEC are now rolling out teacher training in counties across Kenya.
