SOCH aims to equip underserved communities in India with cultural competencies, language skills, and essential skills. The flagship programme, "Virtual Cultural Exchange", works with students aged 10 to 18 by providing first-hand exposure, increasing awareness, and building skills among students with limited exposure.

SOCH was started by Teach For India alumni who recognised the impact of students' limited exposure to the outside world. With hopes of broadening horizons, SOCH serves as a platform for students to look beyond their classrooms and communities, giving them first-hand exposure to people living similar yet very different lives.

The program builds space for students to practise essential skills such as listening, speaking, creativity and teamwork. The essential skills icons are included on programme resources such as the session presentation and worktime resources and are referred to throughout the sessions. Prompts, questions and reflections during and post sessions effectively allow students to be assessed and share how they practised the skills in focus.
