A 2-hour school activity for secondary school students.
This session is designed to inspire students to consider a career in engineering and technology. In this session, students will learn about the types of engineering required by Heathrow, and will learn to code a micro-bit and how to navigate it across a map of the airport to solve engineering challenges. Facilitators showcase and explain the essential skills, such as Teamwork, in the Skills Builder Universal Framework and students are able to practise these skills through the challenge as a team.
Students are reminded of the essential skills throughout the session through the use of the Skills Builder skills icons. Each of these are linked to a reflection question based on a particular step from this skill. Following the challenge students both deliver a presentation on the skills they practised and complete a reflection on the skills and how much they felt the challenge helped them to develop them.
