Research shows that 77% of disabled people would like to be more active. However, there is a lack of inclusivity and accessibility within the sporting community that would enable them to do so.
The Harlequins Foundation passionately believes that rugby should be accessible for all, aiming to create more inclusivity in rugby through The Jesters - The Harlequins wheelchair rugby team!
The Jesters is fully inclusive and is open to both males and females over the age of 15 who wish to be active, competitive, learn new skills, make new friends and have loads of fun. All sessions are run by fully qualified Harlequins Foundation coaches; a mix of experienced and new players makes for a really comfortable and positive environment.
Alongside rugby, wheelchair rugby players will learn about all eight of the essential skills with a focus on listening, speaking, teamwork and leadership
The development of these essential skills creates a strong foundation for a successful rugby team. These skills are also important to learn and develop as they are transferable life skills which help an individual be successful in their life.
Wheelchair rugby is run every Thursday evening at Kingston Academy (Richmond Rd, Kingston upon Thames KT2 5PE). If you are a wheelchair user or have a physical impairment (non-wheelchair users are welcome) and are interested in giving wheelchair rugby a go, please get in contact at: wheelchairrugby@quins.co.uk
