The Higher Education Progression Partnership (Hepp) works across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire to encourage more children, young people and adults to consider higher education opportunities. It is jointly funded by Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.

LEVELS is an attainment-raising booster project for Year 10 students with English as an Additional Language (EAL). The programme seeks to broaden their knowledge of the higher education landscape. This collaborative project includes a funded day on campus for EAL teachers from participating schools to develop resources and two school workshops on goal setting and problem solving, and academic confidence and revision habits. The additional campus day for students includes input from EAL student ambassadors and activities designed to improve students’ knowledge of HE pathways and increase their sense of belonging at HE institutions.

The collaborative resource making day will focus on teamwork and leadership while the two school workshops will comprise of interactive speaking, listening and creative activities to sharpen exam preparation skills. The campus day for students will aim to develop staying positive skills, and students are encouraged to reflect on their aiming high skills as they set goals for what they want to achieve after leaving school.

Activities within the project are aligned to essential skill steps and students are supported to reflect on how these skill steps support their learning. Surveys are used to identify where these skill steps supported key outcomes and to capture learners' progression around focus skill steps.
