England Rugby is the national governing body for rugby in England, responsible for the promotion of the sport and the development of players and officials. The Mayor's Sport team works as part of the Greater London Authority to deliver the Mayor's vision for London to be the most socially integrated, active city and undisputed sporting capital of the world. Sport has the power to bring people together and improve lives, which is at the heart of the Mayor’s approach to sport in London.
England Rugby and the Mayor of London have launched London EmpowerHER, a new project which aims to create a healthier, safer and more inclusive future for young women and girls in Redbridge and Brent. The London EmpowerHER fund allows delivery organisations to deliver rugby and leadership activities to young women and girls in Years 7 to 11, with sessions designed so participants develop skills and confidence.

The London EmpowerHER programme is designed to provide physical and overall health and wellbeing, leadership and essential skills. As part of the training provided to the delivery organisations, sessions have been aligned to the focus essential skill of Aiming High. The Skills Builder Universal Framework provides the common language and shared approach to structured development conversations within sessions around key skill steps, with participants supported to reflect on how they have developed these skill steps during sessions and to track their progression. The girls and young women taking part are also supported to utilise Skills Builder Benchmark to track this progression in wider contexts, whilst their schools are given guidance on how the Skills Builder tools and resources can be utilised effectively to further develop these skills outside the sessions.
