The Higher Education Progression Partnership (Hepp) works across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire to encourage more children, young people and adults to consider higher education opportunities. It is jointly funded by Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.
Meta Method is an attainment raising project, entirely funded by HeppSY and The Elephant Group to support the progress of GCSE students in target schools. This is a free project that will last for two years and the cohort of Year 10 recruits will continue the project into Year 11.
The aim of the project is to teach students to recognise, understand and apply various metacognition techniques to boost their GCSE attainment.
Techniques covered within the Meta Method project include Mind Mapping / Flashcards / Audio Recording / Revision Apps / Collaborative Revision / Mnemonics.
The project has a focus on metacognition strategies to boost study skills and revision habits including self-awareness, self-monitoring, self-evaluation, SMART targets, creating a personal learning plan, identifying key indicators of progress, evaluating their own learning outcomes and identifying areas for improvement, creating criteria for evaluation, resilience, autonomy, guided experience, journaling.
Activities within the project are aligned to essential skill steps and students are supported to reflect on how these skill steps support their learning. Surveys are used to identify where these skill steps supported key outcomes and to capture learners' progression around focus skill steps.
