Micro-Tyco is an international schools competition where students work together to address a social or environmental issue in their school or wider community. Schools are provided with free learning resources, as well as the opportunity to receive feedback from our team of business professionals from our WildHearts Schools Partners. Our Partners include Nestle, Linklaters, Zurich, Wesleyan, BNP Paribas and Siemens. The programme is designed to be used over 30 days, but offers flexibility to be used at a pace suitable for each learning environment. The challenge asks students to explore the Sustainable Development Goals, considering what is important to them and to their community. Top performing teams are invited to pitch their ideas to a global judging panel, where they receive expert feedback from global brands. The winning teams work closely with WildHearts Schools Partners to bring their idea to life.
All Micro-Tyco resources are designed to develop the Essential Skill of Teamwork. Working collaboratively, students will discuss and reflect on their current Teamwork, consider ways to develop this skill and put their learning into practise by being effective contributors.
Throughout the programme, students will discuss what issue they are addressing, consider any barriers and weigh the feasibility of their ideas. By generating ideas to improve their chosen issue, students will develop their Essential Skill of Creativity.
Students are supported to reflect on their essential skills via pre- and post-surveys and throughout the challenge. By aligning this programme with the Skills Builder Essential Skills, the Sustainable Development Goals and the aims of the curriculum, Micro-Tyco provides an engaging, student-led programme encouraging the progression of collaboration and innovation.
