Pupils work in pairs to code a BBC microbit to control Invent Engineer robot vehicles with an iPad. The workshop is usually 90 minutes long and with students from Year 3 up to Year 7.

The tasks vary due to year groups. Some of the tasks and challenges are listed below:

  • Code the vehicle to go forward, reverse and turn using Blocks “drag and drop” software to create a working model
  • Code the LED screen to display images and messages
  • Code the vehicle to use sensors to detect obstructions and alter course
  • Code the vehicle to complete a course.

Five of the Skills Builder essential skills are assessed at the end of the workshop using a Clikapad quiz. The skills are introduced at the start of the workshop and reminder questions placed on the tutor's PowerPoint at appropriate points.

Run by a SATRO STEM Tutor, supported by industry volunteers where appropriate. To arrange a booking, please contact Carl Webb (STEM Tutor) on 01483 688070 or at this email: carl.webb@satro.org.uk
