Exclusively designed for supporting young people on their journey into adulthood, this 5-day life skills based residential uses the outdoors as a vehicle for learning and personal development.
Designed for 11–16-year-olds, Skills4Life is built around real-world outcomes and developed through a series of amazing challenges. Skills4Life is about building learners’ confidence and resilience, setting them apart when applying for and starting their careers.
Each activity during of Skills4Life has been designed to align with the Skills Builder Universal Framework. During the group contract and Epic Challenge planning phase, participants are prompted to discuss the essential skills they will need to complete specific challenges across the week and agree on these as a team. During the activities, the instructor is there to facilitate learning and keep the young people safe both physically and mentally. They will help the young people to identify when they have done something that meets part of their group contract and the Skill Builder essential skills and facilitate this by asking questions to draw out the answers from the young people which will help them to retain and understand what they have learned.
The instructors also take part in specific Leadership training to help develop their ability to structure their feedback to young people on how essential skill outcomes have been achieved. This is feedback is delivered at the end of the programme, equipping young people with specific proof to how and when progress was achieved rather than holistic statements. At the end of the Challenge, the young also people get extra points for reflecting on their experience and how they have achieved the Universal Framework steps.
