SSE is the leading generator of renewable electricity and one of the largest electricity network companies in the UK. STEM-based education for pupils at the secondary phase is incredibly important and decisions around STEM careers are often made consciously or subconsciously at a very early age. For this reason, subject matter experts and education partners have built these curriculum aligned STEM sessions to provide young people with an inspiring insight into the energy sector, the variety of roles and real-life work tasks. The suite of Secondary lessons will teach children much more than science, technology, engineering, and mathematical concepts; they also focus on hands-on learning and real-world application, building the essential skills in order for them to effectively apply these concepts. As an inclusive employer, SSE understands the benefit of inspiring everyone to consider the energy sector and within these curriculum aligned lessons, we bring to life the learning in the classroom with green skills and industrial applications. Each topic has a lesson plan, slide deck and activities for the teachers to deliver throughout the secondary years and showcases the opportunities and career pathways available to all.
Within each lesson, an essential skill and relevant skill step has been embedded within the resources. This is filtered through all materials and introduces the importance of the essential skill whilst using the correct terminology and skills builder icons. Giving participants the time to reflect and progress the essential skill are key points within each lesson and guidance can be found within the presenters lesson plan and embedded within the lesson slide decks. For the application of the essential skill, in-lesson activity accompanied by worksheets gives participants the opportunity to achieve progress in the skill step, whilst giving the opportunity to reflect.
