Equal sporting opportunities are integral in supporting health and well-being. However, women and girls face many barriers to accessing sports, resulting in 90% of girls not doing enough physical activity by the age of 14. The Harlequins Foundation’s SWITCH programme is designed to change this, creating inclusive sporting opportunities for girls through SWITCH.
SWITCH is a girls’ only multi-tiered tag rugby programme, which aims to increase girls' accessibility and participation in rugby. SWITCH impacts our communities, as girls participating in SWITCH are encouraged by their coaches to become agents of change, fostering social progress to a more equal world.
The Harlequins Foundation coaches, also work closely with teachers to educate and support schools so that they can continue to nurture, develop, and sustain rugby opportunities for girls after programme completion.
The Harlequins Foundation’s SWITCH programme focuses on the development of essential skills alongside rugby sessions. SWITCH develops all eight of the essential skills while focusing more specifically on leadership and aiming high; empowering and inspiring young girls to develop into tomorrow's female leaders.
