The BigSis Mentoring programme supports young women in raising their aspirations, building positive relationships, and preparing for their future. This includes support to explore positive pathways, make meaningful connections, and access personalised mentorship and support to build confidence in themselves and their future.
The programme supports essential skills development at Impact Level 2 through structured and intentional activities designed to build these skills in a real-world context. Each participant starts with an introductory session, followed by one-to-one mentoring, community-based employability and skill-building sessions, new experiences, and access to ongoing progression support. This structure allows participants to actively apply, reflect on, and refine essential skills in practical settings.
Facilitators are briefed and trained where needed to integrate essential skills language, guided by the Universal Framework, into each session. Reflection questions are embedded in check-in worksheets and other activities, encouraging participants to consciously track their skill development. Essential skills icons are consistently used across all resources such as flyers, posters, worksheets, and presentations, to reinforce the focus on these skills throughout the programme.
Participants have a 1:1 assessment at the beginning of the programme, identifying specific skill steps they will target. These steps are revisited throughout the workshops and again in a final assessment, providing measurable insights into their progress in skills such as Aiming High and Staying Positive.
The programme outcomes directly contribute to skill development by improving mental health and well-being, raising aspirations, enhancing essential skills, establishing positive role models, empowering female participants, and building peer support networks. These impacts reflect our commitment to fostering lasting skill development at Impact Level 2.
